Current Needs

Thank you for your interest in the current focus areas of the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation. In addition to the projects below, please visit our Taylor Mountain Natural Play Area page and Campaign for Doran page for exciting details on the Parks Foundation’s current campaigns.

Thanks to the generosity of Parks Foundation donors, generations of Sonoma County students have enjoyed science-based field trips to the Environmental Discovery Center at Spring Lake Park.

Focusing on perennially interesting topics such as weather, rocks, and wildlife, as well as contemporary issues like climate change and water conservation, Regional Parks’ dedicated naturalists and educators create exceptional field trips and classroom visits for K-6th grade students.

Because field trip scholarships are prioritized for schools with less discretionary funding, the great majority of students who participate in EDC programs would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend. Your gift of $150 will sponsor a class of 30 students for a field trip. These popular excursions incorporate fitness, nature education, and park appreciation in fun, age-appropriate ways for a memorable student experience.

Please email Executive Director Melissa Kelley to support field trip scholarships.

The Russian River is a beautiful and inviting place for relaxation, rejuvenation, and socializing. Regretfully, these same inviting waters too often represent hazardous swimming conditions, especially for the most vulnerable visitors.

Founded by Regional Parks in the summer of 2013 in response to several tragic incidents along the river, the Water Safety Patrol has loaned thousands of life jackets to vulnerable swimmers at five of the most popular Russian River beaches.

Because of its success and the high demand for jackets, this program has an ongoing need for replacement life vests. Your gift of $60 will purchase two jackets — and will truly help save lives.  For a downloadable flyer with information about how to support this program click here.

Thank you Water Safety Patrol, and thank you donors for helping protect vulnerable swimmers at the Russian River!
